Frequently Asked Questions
I don't use email. Can you still prepare my returns?
It works best if you have an email account. However, we can work with you without an email account. If you don’t have an email account we will not be able to send you confirmation/reminders of your appointmen. Perhaps you can ask a friend/family member to help you set one up, they are free of charge.
How long will it take to complete everything?
This year we are working with a single appointment. It is expected to take about 1 hour 15 minutes to get your return completed and signed off. However, some returns will take longer.
How will you be working with taxpayers this year?
You will either download and print or pickup a packet at the Library that has a Form that you need to fill out, sign and date. After that, you will set up an appointment with us. At that appointment you will meet with a Tax Counselor who will review your documents and get pertinent information from you. This tax counselor will prepare your taxes. A second tax counselor (for quality assurance) will review the tax return and get your OK to eFile the return. Everything will be completed in this one appointment.
Please do not call libraries, they cannot help you with any questions/scheduling.
Must I be vaccinated to have you prepare my taxes this year?
We are not requiring, but encourage you to be fully vaccinated. This is for the protection of everyone that is coming to the site and also the volunteers that are our Tax Counselors.
How can I track the status of my refund?
If you would like to find out the status of your federal refund, please use the IRS’s Refund Status tool at the following link: Federal Refunds. The IRS states that most refunds should be processed within 21 days, however they are dealing with delays, so it may take longer to get your refund. You can find out the status of your North Carolina state refund at this link: NC State Refund. We cannot look up your refund status for you, so please follow the above links and the instructions on those pages if you wish to find out your refund status.
How do I contact you?
You can send us a note using the form here. Alternatively, you can call us at 336-777-6189. You can leave a message at any time.
Do I need an appointment?
We ask that you schedule an appointment online or by calling us at 336-777-6189. Scheduling an appointment greatly helps us with planning the schedule for our volunteers so we can help as many taxpayers as possible. We can accommodate a limited number of walk-ins and will do our best to serve you should you come without an appointment.
